How is Brown Butter Made?
Brown butter is butter that is cooked until the milk solids turn brown. When you’re cooking the butter, it will separate into fat and milk solids. The longer you cook it, the darker the milk solids will become. Note that it doesn’t take a lot of time for the solids to go from brown to black (aka burnt) so you really need to watch it when you’re cooking.
To make brown butter, place the butter in a light colored pan and cook it over med-low heat. The light pan is important (white or stainless steel) so that you can see the color of the butter. The butter will foam up a lot when it’s cooking, stir in between to prevent it from sticking to bottom..when the colour is changed and its browned leaving behind the milk solids,and it smells nutty flavour turn off the gad and strain into a container. Make sure to scrape in all of those delicious brown bits as that’s where the flavour is!
Browned Butter Pound Cake
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup(120 gm) unsalted butter
- 3/4 cup all purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla essence
Instructions
- Cut the Butter into pieces and place in pan ,brown the butter ( see above how its made)
- when its browned remove it to the bowl and refrigerate it ..when its chilled well remove it and keep outside to soften it..
- Pre heat the oven @180 c for 10 minutes
- Mix together Flour,Baking powder and salt ,keep aside.
- Cream together softened Browned butter and sugar until pale then add in eggs one by one,vanilla essence beat well...
- Add in the dry ingredients and mix..Donot overmix
- pour the batter into the greased baking pan and bake for 30-35 minutes..until toothpick inserted comes out clean
